South County Chambers of Commerce will recognize the 2022 Business of the Year for South County at the Chamber's Annual Dinner & Recognition Awards at Villa Loriana on October 5, 2022.

The Business of the Year Award recognizes one business for all South San Luis Obispo County who has contributed significantly to strengthening the South County economy, community, and/or workforce. Rutiz Family Farms earned the title for 2020 and The Spoon Trade/Grover Beach Sourdough won for 2021.

This year’s winner will be voted on from the eight businesses selected as Business of the Month for 2022: Nipomo Recreation Association (February 2022), Grocery Outlet of Arroyo Grande (March 2022), Beachside Window Cleaners (April 2022), Grover Station Grill (May 2022), Pismo Beach Homes (June 2022), CoastHills Credit Union (July 2022), PG&E (August 2022), and Kimberley Victor with Mary Kay Cosmetics (September 2022). The Marketing Committee of the South County Chambers of Commerce—a group of local business owners who represent various industries—select the Business of the Month after reviewing nominations from the community submitted via the Chamber website.

Nipomo Recreation Association: February 2022 Business of the Month

Nipomo Recreation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization which has served the community of Nipomo and surrounding areas since 1989. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life for all residents of the Greater Nipomo area by providing diverse and quality recreation programs, services, athletic opportunities, and facilities in direct response to the needs of Nipomo.

Nipomo Recreation has many programs that benefit the Nipomo community. They offer special events through-out the year, youth basketball league, before- and after- school care, they team up with Lucia Mar Unified School District with the Bright Futures program, Little Bits Preschool & Toddler Center, and much more. They provide service for families of children ages six weeks through eighth grade. Their Kids Club is a fun and safe place families can drop their children and feel confident that they are taken care of.

Grocery Outlet of Arroyo Grande: March 2022 Business of the Month

Grocery Outlet offers name brand groceries for 40-70% less than conventional grocery stores including a variety of fresh, organic produce. Owned and operated by the local Testa family, their store has been involved in the community since it opened two years ago in 2020. They have raised over $18,000 for the last two years in their Independence From Hunger Campaigns. 100% of the profits stayed local with New Life Food Pantry and 5 Cities Christian Women’s Pantry. They also give weekly product donations to Altrusa, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, and more. They donate unsalable produce to pig farmers. Grocery Outlet was part of the grand opening of the Exploration Discovery Center in Grover Beach. They participated in the Stone Soup Music Festival and Trunk or Treat in Grover Beach. They helped raised funds (over $500) for a local youth soccer team. They donated pumpkins to Boys and Girls Club, participated in fundraising events with The Clark Center, and supported other local organizations and schools. Owner Haley Testa said they are grateful to be a part of this amazing community.

Beachside Window Cleaners: April 2022 Business of the Month

Beachside Window Cleaners is a professional window cleaning service headquartered in Oceano, serving San Luis Obispo County and Northern Santa Barbara County. Licensed and insured, they specialize in all aspects of window and glass cleaning. They are dedicated to providing fast, friendly, and reliable service with competitive pricing for their customers.

Services include professional window cleaning for residential and commercial properties, solar panel cleaning, pressure washing, and rain gutters. Grover Station Grill: May 2022 Business of the Month

“Christopher ‘Z’ and Melissa are the incredible owners of a Grover Beach staple,” said Chamber ambassador Kassi Dee, owner of Nan’s Pre-Owned Books. “These two are genuine examples of small-town business owners who care about their community. Pismo Beach Homes: June 2022 Business of the Month

In business since 1985, Pismo Beach Homes is a team of professional real estate consultants specializing in the Pismo Beach real estate market. They are respected Pismo Beach real estate professionals on the Central Coast, dedicated to providing the finest service available in the local real estate industry. Started by two Central Coast natives, Pismo Beach Homes has agents who have raised children here, owned businesses here and actually live here on the Central Coast.

The team at Pismo Beach Homes takes pride in providing exceptional client service. With over 1200 local real estate transactions they obviously know the Five Cities' real estate market. CoastHills Credit Union: July 2022 Business of the Month

Established in 1958 to serve the needs of military personnel at Vandenberg Air Force Base, CoastHills Credit Union is a member-owned, full-service financial institution that serves the entire Central Coast region. As a credit union they are a not-for-profit cooperative that serves more than 70,000 members in Northern Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo County with 11 branches and a full-service local call center.
Their first location in Arroyo Grande at 1580 W. Branch St. just reopened after remodeling into a better banking experience. CoastHills also recently opened a second branch in Arroyo Grande at 1360 E. Grand Ave. and celebrated with a grand opening and ribbon cutting in May 2022. Throughout the month of April 2022, CoastHills celebrated their expanded South County presence by partnering with local coffee houses and providing free coffee to the community. They gave away 500 CoastHills ceramic mugs and more than 900 coffees in April.

Kimberley Victor with Mary Kay Cosmetics: September 2022 Business of the Month

In 2015, Kimberley founded Fashions for a Purpose (FFAP), a nonprofit organization backed by The Mary Kay Foundation and based in Nipomo. Since its inception, FFAP has raised over $115,000 to support domestic violence victims, shelters, and programs, in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Their purpose is to engage, educate, and empower as they promote safe dating practices and raise awareness against domestic violence.

“Kimberley is professional and gives back. She is spirited, community focused, and her business empowers others. She works hard to promote her business and supports others” said one of the many community members who nominated Kimberley for this award.
